Course Description This course covers the many facets of death investigation, including natural, suicide, homicide, accident, and undetermined deaths. Duties and responsibilities of the first responder, investigation of a death scene, sketching and photographing the crime scene, estimating time of death, identifying the victim, and determining the mechanism of death.
Students will learn how a Forensic Anthropologist, Forensic Odontologists, and a Forensic Psychologist can assist in a death investigation. The role of the medical examiner and their relationship to the scene investigator will also be discussed.
Emphasis is placed on how and why the cause and manner of death is a vital part of any death investigation. Various mechanisms of death will be illustrated through this multi-media presentation.
