Suicide Investigation Training


Course Description
This course covers all facets of suicide investigation including the gunshot wounds, stabbing and cutting, asphyxia, and toxicology issues related to overdose deaths.  Time will be spent understanding the duties and responsibilities of the first responder, as well as identifying the sometimes subtle differences between suicide scene and other types of death scenes.  Students will learn the proper way to investigate, sketch and / or photograph a suicide scene.

Students will learn how the medical examiner / coroner can assist in a suicide investigation, and the value of a forensic autopsy.  The emphasis is on how and why the cause and manner of death is a vital part of any death investigation.  Various mechanisms of death will be illustrated through photographs and video.
